תַּרְוָד, תַּרְוָודm. (Syr. תרודא = תְּרֵי יָד) spoon (pointed on top and curved at the end; v. Sm. Ant. s. v. Cochlear). Naz.VII, 2 (49b) מלא ת׳ רקב (Y. ed. Krot. תרויד, corr. acc.) a tarvad-full of dust (v. רָקָב); Tosef.Ohol.II, 3; Y.Naz.VII, 56b bot. Kel. XVII, 12 ת׳ גדול של רופאים the large spoon of the physicians (two handfuls). Ib. XXX, 2 ת׳ … על השולחןוכ׳ a tarvad which is put on the table is subject to uncleanness, if it has a receptacle ever so small; a. fr.Pl. תַּרְוָודוֹת. Yad. IV, 6 לפי חבתן … עצמות אביו ואמו ת׳ in proportion to the esteem in which things are to be held, is their uncleanness; (human bones are declared unclean, whereas the bones of beasts are clean) in order that a man may not make spoons out of the bones of his father or mother.
